Last year I still used Google Photos, but eventually said goodbye. One of the reasons was that one cannot organize the library in a meaningful way via external scripts. The web user interface lacks functionality, and I cannot write a script to help out.
I've used Firefox quite some time, at least since 2009, likely longer. And I've liked the browser. It seemed to have better quality than competitors. When Chrome came out, I was tempted to switch. But I didn't want to let Google have all my data. It was sufficient that they had my address book and calendar, control over my phone and whatnot. My browing history was going to stay with me.

Over the years I have been using content creation software which had a clear separation of a source and a rendered output. This has been LaTeX for scientific documents, Markdown and reStructuredText for computer documentation. I also use Markdown for my notes with Ghostwriter or Obsidian. I have also used GraphViz to create diagrams and graphs. To create 3D models I have used OpenSCAD, which is a programming language for 3D models. When I needed a Wiki, I have used DokuWiki All these software packages let me use the text editor of my choice, version the source code in Git and share it via GitHub. So for me, having a Git repository of Markdown files is the perfect way to create documentation.

Google has this service called Photos where you can just upload photos and have a photo library. They arrange them by date, you can arrange them in albums and also search them. They did not charge anything for the storage and made it very easy to get more pictures online.

I really hate video tutorials. There are very few which are well made and concise. Most of them have a very low information density. Also with the video format one cannot just skim it like one can with a text. I much prefer text with pictures. Also I prefer papers over talks as I can access them with in the way that I like best.

Jetzt in der Corona-Kriese ist natürlich auch diese Industrie betroffen, da viele Leute in ungewissen Zeiten kein Auto kaufen. In den Nachrichten liest man aktuell eine Diskussion über Kaufprämien für Neuwagen. Und dabei sollen dann auch noch eigentlich veraltete Antriebsarten gefördert werden.
During my time in school I was often given worksheets that were photocopies from other books. Sometimes it was the type of worksheet where one had to fill in things, this is somewhat fine. The majority of these photocopies have been just regular book pages.
Pakete bekommen ist ja meist eine schöne Sache. Seid ich allerdings tagsüber meist im Büro bin, laufe ich denen immer häufiger nach. Das Problem ist natürlich, dass ich durch Bestellen von Waren den Kaufprozess asynchron machen möchte, das Annehmen des Paketes allerdings eine Synchronisierung erfordert. Dabei müsste das so nicht sein.

There seem to be a lot of people who have trouble inserting a USB-cable in the right orientation on the first go. I often have a little trouble with that myself. The USB standard asks the manufacturers of cables to have a tactile USB logo on the upper side of the connector. In theory you can take any connector, feel the USB logo and know the way to plug it in. On the computer and phones, the upper side should be up.
Für meinen nächsten Arbeitsvertrag brauchte ich ein Führungszeugnis, Belegart O. Beim meinem letzten Führungszeugnis bin ich noch zum Justizministerium hier in Bonn gefahren und wollte das beantragen. Das kann man da aber nur unter ganz bestimmten Umständen machen, ich jedenfalls nicht. Diesmal wusste ich das besser, also direkt zur Stadt Bonn.
After Rdio shut down, I needed some new streaming service. Amazon Prime Music does not have a sufficiently large music collection. Google Play Music has no playback possibility on Linux that does not involve the Flash player. Therefore I ended up with Spotify.
